The Duplicate Bridge group will play 2 or 3 times a month on Thursday mornings on the 2nd, 4th and 5th (when there is one) starting play at 10:00 and finishing at about 12:00. Normally all of these sessions will be online only using RealBridge. I hope to be able to organise occasional face to face games please contact me if you would like to be included in those.

If you would like to play and have not already told me please let me know ASAP. If you would like to play face to face rather than online please let me know and I will inform you if I get enough people to make face to face play viable.

The new Duplicate Bridge Group season started in May 2024 and for £15 you can play in all of the online games organised by both Radlett U3A and Borehamwood U3A at least until the end of the year.  If you played in every game that would be about 40 games or less than 40p per game!  If you would like to take out a season ticket please contact me via the link above.

Please  contact the group coordinator using the link above for further information

RealBridge Social Lounges - Our RealBridge social lounges continue to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as long as at least one of the players is a Radlett U3A member. The cost is £2 per table (i.e. for all 4 players) where you can play upto 32 boards and we will invoice you at the end of the month. To book a table please email bridge@radlettu3a.org.uk, ideally at least 48 hours before you want the table.

RealBridge allows you to see and talk to your partner and opponents, a bit like a mini Zoom session, and handles all of the scoring and duplicate movement. It has proved very popular and we have been regularly getting between 15 and 18 tables at our sessions. We currently play 2 or 3 times a month on Thursday mornings

If you are on my mailing list you should received emails about this. If you are not on my mailing list but would like to play in one of the RealBridge sessions or face to face please  contact the group coordinator using the link above for further information

Further details of the duplicate group, including details of our RealBridge sessions, results from previous sessions and a calendar for future sessions, are also available from our site at (http://www.bridgewebs.com/radlettu3a/)

When playing with RealBridge please ensure that you login by 9:30. If you are not seated and at your table by 9:45 without informing me in advance I may not be able to seat you if I have already set up the movement and we have started play.

This group is for reasonable players as there will not be any coaching provided. With RealBridge everyone plays the hands at the same time so it is possible to discuss past hands with your opponents as you wait to move to the next round. I also will continue to provide some analysis of the key hands and results by eMail after the session. Hand records, with the ideal results, can be seen on our RealBridge and BridgeWebs websites.

It is an ideal group for people who want to 'dip their toe' into playing duplicate, perhaps before joining a club, and also for those who would like to play duplicate without some of the pressures that might be felt in a regular club. We also very much welcome experienced duplicate players to join us as well and we use standard movements and will score the boards and provide hand analysis after each session.

When playing face to face we normally use an electronic scoring system that can run on most Android or Apple phones and tablets but we will provide our own suitable tablets to each table.

For details of how places are allocated if we reach capacity when playing face to face or have an odd (without a normal partner) player when playing online see the link on the menu for this page or How places are allocated

There is a 'sister' group in Borehamwood and Elstree U3A who are also playing with RealBridge and will allow Radlett U3A members to play if they have the space. If you would like more details or to play with them please contact me or see their website -

http://www.bridgewebs.com/borehamwoodelstreeu3a/ - Borehamwood and Elstree Bridge.

We are allowed to have some players from other local U3As, subject to agreement between the two U3As and there being space for the session Radlett U3A members have priority and the number of places for non-Radlett members when playing face to face is very limited. Please contact me if you would like to be informed when there are spaces available.

In 2016 and 2018 I gave a couple of presentations on duplicate bridge and how I run it Radlett U3A. Following questions from a couple of people in 2024 I have partly updated the presentation to reflect how we play online, now using the RealBridge software. The updated presentation should be available here Duplicate Scoring or by clicking on the link on this page.

Data Protection

In addition to the overall Data Protection and Privacy Policies of Radlett and District U3A there are some specific notices for this group.

As you will be aware I publish the results from our sessions via BridgeWebs, an external service. This means your names appear on that website, together with the dates you played and your scores. The information for the current session is also available during and after it on BrianBridge.Net, the system we use for scoring and RealBridge for the games played on that platform. If you don’t want your name to appear these sites I can create an anonymous name for you. Please let me know if you NEED me to do this for you.

Note that I am now using the more secure email system that BridgeWebs provides to send out my messages about the group. They are not be allowed to use your email address for any other purpose. If you don’t want me to do this for you again please let me know, though it may mean you will not get future reminders about sessions or the results.
